Scotland Tour Ep6 - Highland Farewell - Glen Coe, Ben Nevis & Riding Back South

In the final episode of the Scotland by Motorcycle series, the journey turns south as the adventure reaches its emotional conclusion. This episode begins on the west coast of Scotland near Arisaig, just down the road from Mallaig, after a ferry crossing from Skye. Waking up to clear skies and beautiful light, the day promises one last unforgettable ride through some of the most iconic motorcycle roads in the country. With Fort William ahead, Ben Nevis soon comes into view, perfectly framed by a low winter sun. Riding toward Britain’s highest mountain in such conditions is a moment that perfectly sums up why Scotland is so special by motorcycle. From there, the route joins the legendary A82, following Loch Eil and leading directly into one of the most famous valleys in the Highlands – Glen Coe. The ride through Glen Coe is everything a motorcyclist could hope for: dramatic mountains, sweeping roads, ever-changing light and a real sense of scale. Crossing the Balachulish Bridge marks the gateway into this historic and awe-inspiring landscape, and on this day the conditions could not have been better. After enjoying the ride, there’s a brief stop at Glencoe Mountain Resort for soup and tea before pressing on south toward Crianlarich. As the miles roll by, the route gradually transitions from the Highlands toward the Scottish Borders. After navigating between Glasgow and Edinburgh, the day ends at the beautiful Dryburgh Abbey Hotel, set beside the historic abbey itself. It’s a fitting place to reflect on a journey that started days earlier in very different weather and has delivered mile after mile of exceptional riding. The following morning sees the trip continue through the Borders, heading south via Jedburgh and down toward Kielder Water. The road alongside the reservoir is a motorcycling highlight in its own right, starting narrow and technical before opening into fast, flowing tarmac surrounded by forest and water. Crossing back into England is bittersweet, marking the end of the Scottish portion of the tour, but the riding continues through the North Pennines and into the North Yorkshire Moors. The final overnight stop near Malton in North Yorkshire brings time to reflect on an extraordinary motorcycle tour. Nearly 2,000 miles covered in just over a week, incredible weather, unforgettable scenery, welcoming hospitality and some of the best motorcycling roads the UK has to offer. From Ben Nevis and Glen Coe to Kielder Forest and the moors, this episode captures both the spectacle of the ride and the quieter reflections that come at the end of a long journey. If you’ve followed the series from the start, thank you for coming along for the ride. If this is your first episode, it’s the perfect reminder of why Scotland remains one of the greatest motorcycle touring destinations in the world.
