Bainbridge reflex or atrial stretch reflex anatomy
The Bainbridge reflex (or atrial stretch reflex) describes the reflex that causes an increase in heart rate in response to an increase in atrial filling. This is parasympathetically mediated and the vagus nerve serves as both the afferent and efferent limb of the reflex. The reflex itself occurs within the medulla oblongata.
