The Last Race of the Block: Masters 50-54 Crit Nationals | Full Race + Power Data

The final race of the block. Masters Criterium Nationals in Wauwatosa, the deepest field of my entire week and the end of a six-day stretch that started at the Tour of America's Dairyland. This is the full race, both cameras and live power, heart rate, speed, and a course map on screen. My staging was great and I rode the front through the opening laps to stay safe on a fast, crash-prone course, then settled into the middle for most of the race and moved up late. With a lap to go I was exactly where I wanted to be, near the front and on a good wheel in a national final. I got to the front, got onto the right wheel, and came up a couple of corners short of more. That is the honest summary of the whole block, and it points at the work for next year, which is last-lap craft and corner positioning, not the engine. Because the engine held. This was day five of racing in six days, and the numbers were the second-highest intensity of the week: a normalized 315 watts at an intensity factor of 0.98 across 56 minutes, and I still had a 1,278-watt sprint at the line. The fitness is there. What is left is the craft to convert it. P14 of 55 at a national championship to close the block. I will take that, and I will be back for more.
