Stwlan Dam & Cwmorthin quarry walk | Misty Snowdonia hike
Join me on a misty hike in north Wales as I walk to Stwlan dam and reservoir, before continuing on to the haunting remains of Cwmorthin quarry. With low cloud rolling in, this Snowdonia walk takes on a completely different atmosphere, moody, quiet and almost otherworldly. Starting in the village of Tanygrisiau, the route climbs steadily towards Stwlan reservoir, where the dam was shrouded in cloud. From there I headed along to the abandoned slate workings of Cwmorthin quarry, one of the most fascinating industrial sites in Snowdonia, now partially reclaimed by nature.
