Every Hunting Rifle Stock Type Explained

A wood-stocked rifle zeroed in dry desert conditions and then hunted in wet coastal timber will produce a point of impact shift. Not because the scope changed. Not because the barrel changed. Because the wood absorbed moisture and changed the pressure it applies to the barrel. The laminated stock first appeared in production in 1987 when Rutland Plywood convinced Savage, Ruger, and Winchester to display laminate-stocked rifles at trade shows. The response was overwhelming. Replacing the factory injection-molded synthetic stock on an entry-level rifle with a quality Bell and Carlson or HS Precision aftermarket stock is the single largest accuracy improvement available for that rifle per dollar spent. And the chassis system — aluminum skeleton, adjustable length of pull, adjustable comb height — originated in military sniper applications. The MDT HNT26 and XLR Element brought that precision to hunting. 00:00 Wood Stock 02:23 Laminated Wood Stock 04:24 Synthetic Stock 06:57 Chassis System 08:58 Thumbhole Stock 10:40 Adjustable and Folding Stocks Subscribe to Hunting Lab for the science, biology, and mechanics of hunting and wildlife — new videos every week. #RifleStock #HuntingRifleStock #HuntingLab #SyntheticStock #ChassisSystem #WoodStock #LaminatedStock #ThumbholeStock #HuntingGear #RifleAccuracy
