'Poppies' by Jane Weir: Mr Bruff Analysis
My analysis of the Jane Weir poem 'Poppies'. Get my Poetry Guide FREE when you download my Language & Literature eBooks! đ https://mrbruff.com/product/3-ebook-b... Why is part of this video blurry? I was able to obtain copyright permission for 12/15 poems in this cluster, but for the three I didnât get (and this is one of them) I am using an âexception to copyrightâ under the UK government rules which can be found here: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/exception... I am using the exception listed as ââFair dealing for criticismâ. The document explains that âFair dealing for criticism, review or quotation is allowed for any type of copyright work.â So I am critiquing the poem, which would fall under this exception. But that does not necessarily mean I can recreate the entire poem in the video. As the document continues: âFactors that have been identified by the courts as relevant in determining whether a particular dealing with a work is fair include: does using the work affect the market for the original work? If a use of a work acts as a substitute for it, causing the owner to lose revenue, then it is not likely to be fair is the amount of the work taken reasonable and appropriate? Was it necessary to use the amount that was taken? Usually only part of a work may be used.â So my application of this is that I am not going to show the full poem on-screen, as this could affect the market for the original work (in others words people may not buy the poem because they can read it here in full). As a result, I have blurred out parts of the poem on-screen. Itâs not entirely clear whether I need to do this, but I want to side with the poet who has worked so hard to create this fantastic poem.
