SARGAL Episode 13 | TOURE KUNDA (EMMA)

*A Studio Sankara concept, broadcast weekly Pioneers of world music in France in the late 1970s, the Senegalese brothers Touré Kunda, natives of Ziguinchor in Casamance, are simply one of the key groups for modern African music. They are considered the fathers of World Music. SARGAL is an ambitious artistic project that aims to revisit classics of Senegalese and African musical heritage, paying tribute to all those great voices that have lulled us since our earliest childhood, as well as those whose melodies have created universally acclaimed classics. The goal is to rearrange these classics, giving them a fresh perspective, a new direction, new arrangements, a new sound, a new freshness—in short, a new life. Many tracks take on a new twist: urban, reggae, rap, or soul, so that new generations can rediscover them. The aim here is to share the joy of live performance, but also and especially to train aspiring artists in the art of composition, arrangement, and, in short, the art of music production. We want to allow the public to experience the creative process, and SARGAL will also be an opportunity to give a chance to new talents discovered by Didier Awadi.
