14 - Un jour décisif pour la Torah orale (1/2) - Introduction à la Torah orale

In this session, we begin by providing a historical overview of the situation in Judea from the 1st century BCE to the 2nd century CE. We will discuss the dynasties of Roman emperors, the leadership of the Jewish people by the "peers" (zugot), including Hillel the Elder and Shammai, and the establishment of the patriarchate (leadership through the paternal line descending from Hillel). We will then examine in more detail the defining moments of the period known as the "Tannaim," particularly after the destruction of Jerusalem and the relocation of the sages to the city of Yavneh, which was saved by the intervention of Rabbi Yohanan ben Zakkai with Emperor Vespasian. Through a study of texts from Pirkei Avot (Ethics of the Fathers), we will demonstrate that the chain of tradition experienced a crisis at the end of the 1st century CE.
