It preoccupies the mind, disturbs the peace of mind, breaks the heart, and makes its owner hide from others. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sought refuge from it, yet we have become lax in dealing with it, until our courts are overflowing with complaints about it. It is the issue of debt, that issue which has frightened the hearts of the trustworthy and humbled the noble and honorable. The issue of debt is a widespread and pervasive phenomenon, its intensity and flames rising. Debt collection agencies are on the rise, installment companies promise people a comfortable and prosperous life, and bank loans and loan facilities are enticing people to take them. This is to say nothing of credit cards, which lure consumers into a frenzy of buying and excessive spending, making them forget or ignore the consequences of their purchases and the bitterness of future installment payments! It is no secret that citizens' debts owed to banks alone reached 190 billion by the beginning of this year, as revealed by an economic study! O servants of God, we have several points to make regarding the phenomenon of borrowing and indebtedness, hoping they will help us to reflect, correct our behavior, and continue on our path.
