Chronic Cough Suppression Voice Therapy (Swallow and Breathing Techniques)
For patients suffering from a chronic cough that seems to go on and on no matter the type of medical therapies tried, it can be quite frustrating when nothing works to get rid of the cough and no cause can be figured out! Inhalers, cough suppressants, antibiotics, nasal sprays, allergy medications, etc all seem to make little or no difference. At some point, many patients may stop taking such medications given the lack of improvement. Unfortunately, the cough does not stop with just will power alone. For such patients, cough suppression techniques may be worthwhile to try to help resolve the chronic cough in a drug-free manner. Using simple breathing and swallowing techniques under guidance of a voice therapist (a speech language pathologist with voice specialization), significant reduction in cough can be achieved.
