The connection between BR-251 and BR-122 in Minas Gerais is a place where drivers must exercise maximum caution. BR-251, or officially Rodovia Júlio Garcia, is a Brazilian transversal highway. It extends from the state of Bahia to the state of Mato Grosso. Its total length is approximately 1515.2 km. In general, it presents conservation problems in several sections. It is the only transversal highway that crosses the Federal District. BR-251 still has many unpaved or unimproved sections, mainly in the state of Mato Grosso. The sections already implemented, and most used, of BR-251 are those that connect Montes Claros to BR-116 (Rio-Bahia), and the one that connects Unaí to the Federal District. The BR-251 connects with the following highways: BR-101, BR-116, BR-122, BR-365, BR-135, BR-158, BR-08, BR-414. The BR-122 is a longitudinal federal highway in Brazil. It begins in the state of Ceará, in Chorozinho, and goes to the state of Minas Gerais, at the BR-251 junction, which connects Montes Claros to the Rio-Bahia highway. There are several unpaved sections.
