Ep. 17 | Despre omul care întreabă duhovnicul, dar nu ascultă

In “Philokalia for the Contemporary Man” Fr. Grigorie Foltiș is in dialogue with Fr. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Grigore-Dinu Moș on the sidelines of Philokalia XI. The higher you are, the less valid these negative truths about yourself are. And the lower you are in the spiritual life, the more valid these negative truths (e.g.: I am a worm and not a man; I am evil, wicked, depraved, etc.) are. The higher you are (which comes from a greater gift and grace), the greater your debt to God and the greater your awareness of unworthiness that you have not used grace as it should be and have squandered much of the gifts you have received. This is how saints humble themselves. There is nothing false there. They see their real unworthiness, compared to how much they have been given. Some spiritual fathers justify the sins of their spiritual children lest self-condemnation be made out of some kind of restriction of freedom as a result of the authority imposed by the spiritual father. We can do many good deeds every day, but if we have become proud of what we have done, those things no longer have any value. As far as our inner building is concerned, we have destroyed everything.
