How to Pinch Zinnia’s for More Blooms & Longer Stems | Cut Flower Garden Update

My first round of zinnias was started at the end of March and while watering the other day I noticed they were already starting to form buds! Since we still have cool, wet weather ahead and I’ll be waiting a few more weeks after my last frost date for the soil to warm up, it’s the perfect time to pinch them back before planting out. In today’s video I’m sharing my quick and easy process for pinching zinnias to encourage more side shoots, stronger plants, and longer stems for cut flowers and bouquets at my roadside flower stand. The stems are still very short, so removing those first buds now should help the plants focus on growth before summer arrives. Hopefully this means armloads of blooms by mid to late June! I may even find the time to try and root these cuttings to create even more Zinnias, especially since some of these varieties are from Floret!
