When used correctly, pigs are the ideal replacement for plows or cultivators. Within just a few weeks, fields can be prepared for planting using pigs. The more pigs involved, the larger the area that can be cultivated in a shorter time. The ingenious aspect: the exposed roots simultaneously trigger a significant growth spurt in the pigs. Anton Donnerer of the Pur Naturhof farm in Styria has been consciously using his free-range pigs for field preparation for many years. His old orchards are transformed into fertile farmland within a few weeks, where strawberries, among other crops, are then cultivated.
