In the NDR documentary "Battlefield Politics – The Dark Side of Power," politicians speak unusually candidly about their defeats. They discuss their resignations – and the scars left by the ongoing struggle for power and prestige. Some politicians report serious physical and mental health problems. Regardless of their party affiliation, all those interviewed say that the most serious wounds are inflicted on each other by party members. Politicians like to portray themselves as decisive, successful individuals. They are very reluctant to talk about their defeats. For the documentary "Battlefield Politics – The Dark Side of Power," commissioned by North German Broadcasting (NDR) and written by Stephan Lamby, several politicians made an exception and spoke in detail about intrigues, breaches of loyalty, and resignations.
