#86 Owl! Sphere Jig Woodturning Project
Finally got enough time to film a project video and here is a very cute woodturned owl ornament. For the sphere, I used the Paul Howard Sphere Cutting Jig which is a simply brilliant piece of kit, and a worthy purchase. The owl was turned (mostly) following the instructions he kindly sent me. If you would like any further information about the jig or the instructions, please visit his website at: https://www.paulhowardwoodturner.co.uk I've not been sponsored for this video and have received no payment for it. The sycamore owl was started off with a roughing gouge and a bowl gouge before moving onto using the jig. Then it was coloured and sealed before using the Hold Fast Vacuum Chucking System for turning out the eyes. For the texture on the head, I used a Dremel and Saburr Tooth bit. The base is a simple piece of London Plane, scooped out to allow the head to site neatly on it. The colour used was my water based Intrinsic Colour Collection 'Earth' dye and the sealer was Hampshire Sheen Pre-Thinned Cellulose Sealer. The final finish on both items was Hampshire Sheen High Gloss. Whilst this project used a brilliant sphere jig and vacuum chuck, it is also possible to turn it between centres and use a donut chuck for the eyes. ********************************** Visit my website for Hampshire Sheen, Intrinsic Colours, Witty Turner's Clothing and Gifts, Hints and Tips: http://www.msabansmith.com ********************************** Hampshire Sheen: Find your nearest retailer: http://www.hampshiresheen.com ********************************** Find Me on Other Social Media Facebook: / msabansmith Twitter: / msabansmith Google+: https://plus.google.com/+Msabansmith/ Instagram: / msabansmith *********************************** *** Small Print and Disclaimer: Woodturning can be dangerous. At all times, you are responsible for your own safety, that of your workshop and other people in it. Ensure you wear suitable personal safety equipment at all times. This is my way of turning this project - Other turners may turn it differently and you may find your own way of reaching the same result. By copying these techniques, you do so at your own risk.
