A walk through the infamous red-light district of Angeles City, Pampanga, Philippines, with its famous Walking Street (Red Street), reminded me once again how fortunate I am to be living in Lingayen. Despite all the advantages of a city with a large foreign population and the corresponding restaurants that have sprung up there, I found the contrast between the expensive establishments and the beggars particularly distressing. And that's not even mentioning the sex tourism. I'm certainly aware that there must be more attractive areas in the region, but I personally prefer my city with its relatively small number of foreigners, its vast beach, and its typical Filipino atmosphere. For all the advantages of a city with many foreigners and the corresponding restaurants, I found the contrast between the expensive establishments and the begging people particularly distressing.
