Piorunka and Czyrna, charming villages of the Sądecki Beskids - Drone to interesting places - WM | Foxtrott The history of Piorunka dates back to 1634, when the village was founded as a Lemko settlement. For centuries, the Lemkos, a Ruthenian population of Greek Catholic and Orthodox faiths, lived here, cultivating their distinct culture, language, and traditions. Today, Piorunka is a peaceful, quiet village, ideal for those seeking respite from the hustle and bustle of the city. It also attracts researchers of Lemko culture, photographers, and lovers of wooden religious architecture. Visiting this village, you can experience peace, pause for a moment, and touch the traditions that have shaped the face of these mountains for centuries. The most valuable monument in Piorunka is the wooden Orthodox Church of Saints Cosmas and Damian. The current building was built in 1798 and was thoroughly rebuilt in the early 20th century. The interior was decorated with polychrome in the 1930s. The church represents a typical Lemko church, a tripartite log structure typical of the Beskid Niski and Sądecki regions, with a tower over the women's gallery and characteristic domes. Its wooden architecture, harmoniously integrated with its surroundings, makes the church in Piorunka a true gem on the Lemko Churches Trail in the Beskid Sądecki. It's a place where you can feel the authentic spirit of bygone times. The channel presents various interesting places, both in Poland and abroad, that I managed to visit and that I found interesting, either for their natural beauty and urban planning, which I frequently documented with a drone, or for their fascinating historical facts. #Lesser Poland Czyrna was founded in 1574 by Szymon of Śnietnica, based on a charter granted under Wallachian law. From the beginning, it was associated with the so-called The Muszyna Key, the estates of the Kraków bishops. Its inhabitants were engaged in shepherding, farming, and weaving, and in the 19th century, Czyrna was known as a weaving center. After World War II, in 1947, during Operation Vistula, almost all of Czyrna's inhabitants were relocated to western and northern Poland. The village was deserted. Only in the following years did new settlers, mainly Poles from neighboring towns, move in. The most valuable monument in Czyrna is the former Greek Catholic Church of St. Paraskeva, now the Roman Catholic Church of the Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The church was built in 1893–1894, according to the design of the French architect Délavo. Wooden, tripartite, with a distinctive tower and slender proportions, it represents the so-called Western Lemko style. Its interior houses a rich iconostasis from the early 20th century, side altars, and Baroque paintings, including the 17th-century "The Entombment." Next to the church stands a freestanding brick bell tower from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Today, the entire structure is part of the Małopolska Wooden Architecture Trail and is under conservation care.
