In 2006, during his last public appearance, he stated that he was saddened by his inability to create. In 1958, he succeeded Christian Dior, becoming the youngest fashion designer in the world. He then founded his own fashion house with Pierre Bergé. He created the tuxedo for women. He modeled for the L'Humanité fashion show, posed nude, and held a retrospective fashion show in 1998 at the Stade de France. In 1965, he created the Mondrian dress. He drew inspiration from painters for his collections. Yves Saint Laurent was a melancholic, anxious genius.
