The threat coincides with a new round of sanctions against key sectors of the Cuban economy—tourism, energy, trade, finance, and maritime transport—and constitutes an offensive that combines economic strangulation, international isolation, and military deterrence. The result is an escalation that once again places Havana under one of the most intense periods of US pressure in recent years. This week, the administration imposed sanctions on ten Cuban entities linked to tourism, energy, foreign trade, finance, and maritime transport. The list includes the Ministry of Tourism, the energy companies ENETEC and COREYDAN, the foreign trade group GECOMEX, the financial institution CAUDAL, and the maritime company GEMAR. Organizations linked to internal surveillance and political repression, such as the Territorial Troop Militias, the Association of Combatants of the Cuban Revolution, and the Rapid Response Brigades, were also sanctioned. The measures freeze any assets these entities may have under U.S. jurisdiction and prohibit U.S. citizens and companies from engaging in business with them. Their most significant impact, however, may be felt outside the country.
