On Tuesday, June 2, members of the National Coordinator of Education Workers (CNTE) blocked Paseo de la Reforma, Circuito Interior, Insurgentes Avenue, and access points to the Historic Center of Mexico City, where they have been staging a sit-in since May 15. They also destroyed several statues of soccer players installed along Reforma Avenue as part of the decorations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The World Cup will open on June 11. Among the demands presented by the teachers' union are a 100% salary increase, the repeal of the 2007 ISSSTE Law, a return to a solidarity pension system, the elimination of individual retirement accounts (Afores), and the repeal of the 2013 and 2019 education reforms. The Ministry of the Interior, through its social media account, posted on June 2nd that "the government maintains an open dialogue with the CNTE and calls for avoiding disruptions to students and the public." The Secretary of Education, Mario Delgado, shared on his social media account on Wednesday, June 3rd, a plan he presented to the CNTE "to achieve the reform of the USICAMM this year," which consists of a roadmap that would begin on June 15th and conclude on September 14th with the presentation of the initiative to the Congress of the Union.
