Offer this fervent prayer to a guru who is indistinguishable from Je Rinpoche and all the Buddhas of the ten directions, and forever follow and learn from a guru who is indistinguishable from the Buddha. If you regularly apply this energy, what state can't you overcome? Especially when it comes to suffering, it can be overcome with a stomp of the foot, a grit of the teeth, or a close of the eyes. Everyone has an army within them, and you must be the commander! The fervor of prayer is like a flame, burning away all defilements and irrational thoughts! Be adept at controlling your mind, at mobilizing the army within. This "adeptness" is actually a state of mind in prayer. Just like chanting a mantra to the end, you'll feel the powerful sound of your heart, like thunder resonating through the universe! Hence the saying, "The bright moon of longing, bright and tranquil, cools the universe." This mobilized mental energy has a holding power. How does this power initially arise? Prayer! Focus your entire mind on prayer! When anything, even death, strikes, you can instantly bring forth mindfulness. Again, it's not that you lack mental strength, but that you don't know how to mobilize it! The method for mobilizing your mental strength is found in the Lamrim. From the first stage of the path to the final stage of bodhicitta, with its earth-burning power, what fear remain?
