We were west of Africa, in the middle of the Atlantic, on the sunny island of Boa Vista. Endless, deserted beaches, rugged cliffs with impressive caves, enchanting people, and a city on the rise with Sal Rei. The dunes are like something out of a movie, the salt comes from the saltpans, and there are... lots of surfers. During the winter months, athletes on their boards dominate the island—but for those who wish, fishing is also an option. A few months ago (in 2024), a good friend invited us on a guided fishing trip, and we're excited to share that experience with you in this video. Early at dawn, we met at the harbor of Sal Rei and set out to sea full of eager anticipation with our fishing guide, Romi de Jesus. It was a premiere for us—neither of us had fished in Africa before. The day turned out to be quite different from what we expected—we saw whales, caught a Mahi Mahi, and the afternoon ended with a spectacular catch. Hannes caught the fish of his life, a Wahoo measuring 123 cm and weighing 16 kg. Enjoy watching!
