Building my dream DIY CNC using a 3018 - Step 1: milling aluminum for cheap
#CNCMill #DIY #3018CNC 0:00:00 Introduction 0:02:29 3D CAD design of the new CNC 0:05:16 Tool path generating for the platform In this video, I showed my new design for CNC milling machine: The link to the design will be available in a few days. This design with a moving table can be built very easily using the 3018 CNC to cut all the brackets and plates out of 3/4" thick plywood. I used 3030 aluminum extrusion bars to build the frame. The linear rails are SBR20 and the ball screws are SFU1204. With a small and cheap 400W spindle, I was able to mill Aluminum decently. It took much less time to make Aluminum brackets using the new machine compared to making plywood brackets on the 3018 CNC. The next steps will be upgrading all brackets and plates to Aluminum and installing a slow-speed, high torque spindle to mill steel.
