Episode 2 – Raised in America, Shaped by Sweden: A Double Soul Finding Balance Between Two Cultures
🇺🇸🇸🇪 Camilla is a 19-year-old student of International and European Law, born in the United States and raised in Sweden, now continuing her studies in the Netherlands at the University of Groningen. 🌊 Her story begins between two worlds: the beaches and light of California, her mother’s homeland, and the colder, quieter landscapes of Sweden, where she moved at the age of 12 and where her father comes from. ❄️ That transition marked a deep shift in identity, language, and everyday life, from one culture into another, and eventually into both. 🌍 After finishing high school, Camilla chose to take a gap year, stepping away from academic pressure to explore herself and the world. What began as a pause soon turned into a life-changing journey across continents, with time spent in Bali and Australia, where she also took part in volunteer experiences. 🎒 Along the way, she started collecting something she describes as an “emotional suitcase”, filled not with things, but with experiences, perspectives, independence, and a clearer sense of who she is becoming. ✨ Growing up in an international environment, surrounded by friends and influences from all over the world, shaped her naturally open mindset and her way of seeing identity as something fluid rather than fixed. ⚖️ Today, Camilla is still exploring her path between diplomacy, international law, and international affairs, remaining open to wherever curiosity and opportunity may lead her. 🌿 Her journey reflects what it means to grow up between cultures: not choosing one identity over another, but learning how to hold both at the same time.
