Stuart Smith - Evolution of the Porphyry Exploration Model

The porphyry Cu deposit model has proven to be an extremely useful exploration tool and recent developments may have significantly enlarged the detectable footprint of deposits – further enhancing the model’s effectiveness. However at the Belt-scale, even the most advanced published porphyry models remain in their infancy and have had little impact on exploration success. The presentation presents the evolution of the model and then discusses its impacts on exploration success. Suggestions are made around approaches that companies can take and areas for further research.
