You will decide the size and depth in the design. Once the design is complete, you will know the volume your pond will have. In our case, our pond has: 6.3m² and 2,200 liters Based on the size and volume of your pond, you will calculate the pump flow rate, the number of filters, and even how many fish you will put in! After the design and materials are purchased, it's time to get your hands dirty and build your natural pool! The first step is excavation. After digging the hole, you will place a material called BIDIM, which is a geotextile membrane that serves as protection so that the waterproofing membrane does not come into contact with the soil. After using the BIDIM, you will apply the waterproofing membrane, which is called EPDM membrane. We used 3 meters wide x 5 meters long. Finally, you will have to apply the geotextile membrane again to protect the EPDM membrane from the stones and sand you will add! Once all the infrastructure is ready, it's time to move on to the equipment for your pond! If you leave the water in your natural pool without any filtration, it will become very dirty in a short time. Therefore, filters are essential! To begin, you will need a pump to draw water from your natural pool and send it to the filter. As for the filters, you will absolutely need 3: 1 – Mechanical filter 2 – Biological filter 3 – Chemical filter The IPDM liner was one of the most expensive materials, costing: 1,920 Reais. The BIDIM liner cost us: 94 Reais. We didn't pay for labor or sand! In total, our cost was: 3,600 Reais! In comparison, if you were to hire a company, the same pond, of the same size, would cost around: 30,000 Reais! A lot of savings, isn't it?!
