Dá pra crescer sem destruir a floresta? | Luciano Zandoná | TEDxGuarulhos
Every time you turn on the tap, there's a forest behind it. Few people know this. Luciano Zandoná has spent his life proving it. A biologist with a master's degree in Plant Biodiversity, specializing in orchids and a member of the IUCN Orchid Specialist Group, Luciano worked on rescuing rare species during the construction of the Rodoanel Norte highway in Guarulhos, and was the curator of the orchidarium at Bosque Maia. In his TEDxGuarulhos Countdown talk, he shares what he learned from the encounter between a large construction project and the life it threatens, and defends an idea that sustains cities without us realizing it: it is the Atlantic Forest, like the one in the Serra da Cantareira where he lives, that guarantees the water we drink. Preserving the forest is not the opposite of developing; it is the condition for development to exist. A talk about the interdependence between city and nature, and about why each species saved is also a way of taking care of ourselves. Luciano Zandoná is a biologist, holds a master's degree in Plant Biodiversity and Environment, is a specialist in Orchidaceae, a member of the IUCN Orchid Specialist Group, and the technical director of Zandoná Conservação, working in flora conservation, in vitro cultivation, and environmental education. This video is part of TEDxGuarulhos Countdown, a global initiative that brings together ideas and actions in the face of the climate crisis. Luciano Zandoná is a biologist and holds a master's degree in Plant Biodiversity and Environment from the Botanical Institute, with a career entirely dedicated to the conservation of Brazilian flora. A specialist in Orchidaceae and a member of the IUCN Orchid Specialist Group, he works as the technical director of Zandoná Conservação, where he transforms research, territory, and preservation into concrete action. A collaborating researcher at the Botanical Institute of São Paulo and UNICAMP, he participated in essential projects such as the monitoring and rescue of flora on the Rodoanel Norte highway, the implementation of nurseries and in vitro cultivation laboratories, and the action plan for orchid conservation at Legado das Águas. He was the curator of the Guarulhos Public Orchidarium and responsible for technical training in conservation units, bringing together solid experience in taxonomy, in vitro cultivation, environmental education, photography, and vertical techniques. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
