Splatterhouse (Arcade) Playthrough
A playthrough of Namco's 1988 horror-themed action arcade game, Splatterhouse. Played on the machine's default settings. Namco's Splatterhouse was everything you'd have wanted and expected from a late 80s arcade game. It took a mindless but appealing premise - Jason Voorhees finds himself in a mansion filled with supernatural horrors - dressed it up in some of the finest video game graphics of its day, and invited players to punch their way through a multitude of gory setpieces to save the girl. The game is a platforming beat 'em up that keeps things simple. The pacing is slow and deliberate, there aren't any combos or super meters, and it doesn't ask you to think. All you need to do is memorize the patterns, hone your timing, and check your gag reflex. That's all easier said than done, but Splatterhouse is a game that's refreshingly free of pretense. It's dumb, violent fun, and that's all it was ever trying to be. I think it succeeded quite well on that front. The TurboGrafx-16 port ( • Splatterhouse (TurboGrafx-16) Playthrough ) is also good, but these days, the arcade version is the one to play. _____________ No cheats were used during the recording of this video.
