Safety Factor Analysis of Dam: Sliding & Overturning Conditions
In this video, we explore the safety factors of dams against sliding and overturning. Learn how to calculate the forces acting on dams and perform stability analysis to ensure structural integrity. Perfect for civil engineering students and professionals. Stay tuned for practical examples and key insights! It controls water flow. Dams are constructed to withstand significant hydraulic pressure from the water stored behind them. Retaining Wall: A retaining wall is designed to hold back soil or rock from a building, structure, or area. It is commonly used to prevent erosion or landslides on slopes, but it doesn't deal with water storage or flow. Retaining walls primarily resist the pressure exerted by earth and sometimes water (in case of groundwater or rain runoff) but are not meant to store large volumes of water. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Dam vs Retaining Wall Dam construction Retaining wall types Civil engineering basics Dam design Retaining wall design Difference between dam and retaining wall Hydraulic structures Dam engineering Structural engineering Water resources engineering Types of dams Types of retaining walls Dam safety Slope stabilization Earth structures Engineering for beginners Retaining wall construction Water storage structures Flood control engineering #civilengineering, #constructionengineering, #engineeringexplained, #engineeringconcepts ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
