Lake District Walks Middle Dodd | Solo Hike In Relentless Wind & Rain | Hiking Wainwright at 61
Lake District walks: Middle Dodd, Sour Howe, Sallows. Join me as I continue my Hiking Wainwright challenge at 61. In this video, I take on a challenging set of fells during some of the most relentless wind and rain I’ve faced yet. Starting out on Mother’s Day, I head across the lakes to tackle Sour Howes and Sallows -two fells I hadn’t visited before. The weather forecast called for heavy rain, and the fells certainly delivered! With paths turning into literal streams and bogs, I share my personal tips for navigating when visibility is low and the ground is saturated. After completing the first two fells, I move on to Red Screes and finally tick off Middle Dodd. Reaching the summit of Middle Dodd was a massive milestone for me, as it means I’ve now completed all the Central, Northern, and Eastern fells in my Wainwright journey. I also share a personal story about a lesson I learned on Red Screes as a young boy that every hiker should hear: always tell someone your route and your expected return time! Despite the stinging rain and the "clag" blocking the views early on, the clouds eventually broke to reveal some stunning vistas of Brothers Water and Windermere. It’s a reminder that even on the wettest days, these Lake District walks are absolutely stunning and well worth the effort. Fells covered in this hike: Sour Howes Sallows Red Screes Middle Dodd (Milestone!)
