The news that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has increased the number of his personal security personnel to more than 800 officers comes as no surprise.Military history scholar Peter Caddick-Adams wrote about this in a column for The Telegraph . He noted that Putin, like autocrats before him, such as Hitler, rose to power through bloody deeds and therefore fears similar treatment from rivals or Ukrainian saboteurs. "To control the actions and thoughts of their subjects, autocrats require a massive security apparatus. Concentric rings of protection are combined with informants who voice their suspicions to the police," the researcher wrote, adding that in Putin's case, this is the FSB. The researcher argues that the FSB and similar organizations are turning into a state within a state, establishing surveillance on millions of people and giving weight to the denunciations of every informant."Since the dictator is the state, any abnormal behavior can be seen as a threat to the leader. Pretrial detention centers and assassination squads are necessary," the historian noted. And so, as the researcher noted, when experiencing paranoia that enemies want to harm, the cycle of personal security becomes an obsession."Putin, like Hitler, fears any threat to his regime. He hopes that technology and numerous intersecting security structures will neutralize any opposition," the researcher opined. The FSB, a 50,000-strong security force, serves as Putin's bodyguard and that of his inner circle. Its internal corps, composed of carefully selected and politically reliable officers, announced an increase in its numbers from 785 to 812."Reasonable minds have concluded that this is a squad of 27 experienced drone pilots," the researcher wrote. He added that these additional measures were prompted by the assassination of Putin-loyal General Fanil Sarvarov in December 2025.Immediately after this, employees working with Putin were banned from public transportation and mobile phones. Communications signals are now regularly jammed when Putin is nearby, and key employees are issued Kevlar umbrellas."To further obfuscate his movements, Putin uses up to a dozen body doubles and maintains several identically furnished offices in Moscow, St. Petersburg, his dachas, and on the train, so that his whereabouts remain secret even during video conferences with officials and journalists," Caddick-Adams added.Surveillance systems have even been installed in the homes of the cooks, photographers, and bodyguards who serve the Russian dictator."The inclusion of chefs on this list is interesting, as Putin's paternal grandfather, Spiridon, once worked as a cook for Lenin and Stalin, and young Vladimir grew up on stories of the old man preparing food for the Soviet elite. He hires tasters, likely because of his own history of using poisons against opponents," the researcher speculates."Like Hitler, he must be constantly on guard, while his opponents only need to try their luck once.
