Vinyl Placemat Stenciling on Paper using Avocado Dye and/or Food Coloring

Thrifted placemats have been so fun. I have been collecting them for a couple years and use them to make designs on my papers - but I usually use coffee and tea. This time I used 5 or six avocados that I’ve been drying and put them in a pot with enough water to cover 2” above. I added 1 teaspoon of baking soda and brought to a boil. Then I lowered to simmer for an hour and strained using a fine mesh metal strainer. I put a little in a 9x13 glass pan and began dipping the papers and/or index cards into it and laid them out on the back of non stick cookie sheets and pressed a placemat onto each. I put more dye on each placemat to ensure paper was truly wet. Patience patience!! This must dry totally before peaking. The results are so fun. To the last of the dye I started adding food coloring. I first used blue and got the nicest brown color. (9drops) Then added yellow to get the green tone. (9 drops) I still have some left and I just added 13 drops of yellow so can’t wait to see the results! Thanks for watching. #paperdyeing #junkjournal #junkjournals #stenciling
