We take a stroll through Rotterdam and discover the tallest traditional windmills in the world, located in the Dutch city of Schiedam. They were primarily built in the 18th century to grind grain for the city's thriving gin industry. Of the many windmills that once existed, only six remain. At its peak, Schiedam was the gin capital of the world, and the windmills were essential to the production of this spirit. Originally, there were around 20 windmills, but today only six remain. One of the windmills, De Noord, has been converted into a restaurant and bar. Another, De Kameel, is a working windmill that has been transformed into a craft brewery. Molen De Walvisch is also open to visitors and houses a small museum about milling history.
