Serious Sam HD: The Second Encounter picks up where the previous game left off. Serious Sam sets off on a Sirian flying saucer to find Mental, but he doesn't get far—the saucer crashes in the jungles of Central America. Now Sam must travel through time, visiting the Mayan city of Teotihuacan, ancient Babylon, and medieval Europe, to ultimately retrieve the Holy Grail, which will help him in his difficult fight against the forces of evil. As in the previous game, there's a "secrets" system, a plethora of weapons, and mutants ready to kill the protagonist in seconds. The level design has been updated, but for the better, as have the musical compositions that play throughout the levels. It's time to move forward, as the enemy is gathering strength and preparing ambushes... The adventures in Central America continue. Sam heads deep into Palenque to retrieve an artifact—the Crystal Skull—which could prove useful in his mission, and then travel to the Mayan city of Teotihuacan. His primary objective is the Sirian Time Portals, which will help him locate a spare Sirian ship abandoned on Earth. After retrieving the Crystal Skull in Palenque, Sam heads to Teotihuacan. Now he must reach the Pyramid of the Sun and activate the time portal. The city was abandoned before Sam's arrival, but it concealed deadly traps and treacherous labyrinths created by the Mayans. However, he must act quickly. An ancient being, a sorcerer resurrected from the dead by Mental and summoned to guard the Holy Grail—Mordecai the Sorcerer. The sorcerer summoned hordes of enemies to keep Sam at bay, but despite all odds, Sam managed to break through to the cathedral. It seems they'll now have to face off, one-on-one or not...
