Artists speak out over Creative Australia's dumping of Kahled Sabsabi | 7.30
Australia's art community was plunged into chaos late last week with the cancellation of artist Kahled Sabsabi as Australia's representative to the 2026 Venice Biennale. The body who made the decision, Creative Australia, has not clearly explained why the decision was taken following questions about Mr Sabsabi's work by the Opposition in parliament. Tomorrow 20 leading Australian artists, all former representatives to the prestigious event, will publish a letter saying the decision "signals a fundamental disregard for the role of artists in our society”. 7.30's Sarah Ferguson interviews Simryn Gill, who represented Australia at the Venice Biennale in 2013 and she's a close friend of Khaled Sabsabi.
