HARDCORE FILLING IN CONCRETE FOUNDATION @iconstructiontv @360construction @CatProducts
A DOMESTIC CONCRETE GROUND FLOOR, HAS 3 MAJOR COMPONENT VIZ; 1. HARDCORE 2. THE DAMPROOF MEMBRANE(dpm) 3. THE CONCRETE BED Hardcore is the name given to the infill of materials such as crushed and graded bricks, stone or concrete, which are hard,do not readily absorb water, or deteriorate. it is a layer, comprising of stone, bricks, boulders as the case may be Hardcore should be spread until it is level, and then compacted using a mechanical vibrating plate or roller. a hardcore bed in floors is usually 100 to 300 mm deep. The materials used for hardcore should be chemically inert i,e unreactive , not really affected by water and free from water-soluble sulphates. THE COMMONLY USED HARDCORE MATERIAL ARE GRAVEL,CRUSHED. OTHER MATERIALS INCLUDES *Brick or tile rubble. Clean, hard broken brick or tile crushed and graded. Bricks should be free of plaster and wood. Concrete rubble. Clean, broken, well graded concrete is a good material for hardcore. Gravel and crushed hard rock. Clean, well graded gravel or crushed hard rock are both excellent, but somewhat expensive materials for hardcore. Chalk. Broken chalk is a good material for hardcore providing it is protected from expansion due to frost. Road planings. When roads are resurfaced the top of the road is usable as hardcore The Importance Of Hardcore In a Building includes 1. Hardcores are important for the stability of the foundation 2. It further adds strength or solidifies the base upon which the german concrete sits on. This means that it helps to resist pressure of dead and live loads on the ground floor as it helps transfer this to the foundation. 3. Hardcores provides a good base for buildings. It serves as a platform for the base of the building. 4. Application of hardcores helps to save cost. This is because the amount of cement and granite that would have been used for oversite concrete is reduced as stones or boulders are used to reduce the depth of void 5. Hardcores provide space for air. This exists between the hardcore system and serves as restriction to the movement of water. 6. Hardcores helps to shorten the time required for casting. This is so because the amount of concrete required to cast is totally reduced on addition of stones. 7.Hardcores are very important as they help protect the substructure (Foundation). It however saves cost of maintenance, underpinning in the future. Its important that proper compaction should be done after placement of hardcore this will help reduce the amount of void within hardcore materials this is achieved by using a compactor around the area where the hardcore is placed
