So, do you know when the IWGP Tag Team Championship began, who the first champions were, and what the matchups were like? This time, we'll talk about the "Intelligence Monster," Bruiser Brody, who played a major role in the finals of the inaugural IWGP Tag Team Championship League. In May 1985, Tatsumi Fujinami and Kengo Kimura became the 8th WWF International Tag Team Champions. However, just five months later, the business partnership between WWF and New Japan was dissolved, and the titles were forfeited. To replace it, New Japan established the "IWGP Tag Team Championship." The "IWGP Tag League" was held from November to December 1985, with the winning team being recognized as the inaugural IWGP Tag Team Champions. The final match, held at the Miyagi Prefectural Sports Center on December 22nd, featured Antonio Inoki & Seiji Sakaguchi vs. Tatsumi Fujinami & Kengo Kimura. In this match, Fujinami scored the three count on Inoki with a Dragon Suplex Hold, and Fujinami & Kimura were crowned the inaugural champions. However, both Fujinami and Inoki, who competed in the final, were actually second in league points. The first place team was Bruiser Brody & Jimmy Snuka. However, Brody unilaterally withdrew from the tournament on the day of the match and did not show up to the venue. Brody was under contract with New Japan Pro Wrestling for one year and eight months, from March 1985 to November 1986.
