Because the largest lagoon on the planet is also the most beautiful. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Caledonian lagoon owes its dazzling health to very little human pressure. The vast New Caledonian territory (400 km long for the main island) is populated by only 250,000 inhabitants. The lagoon therefore offers vast, completely unspoiled spaces. A true inland sea, the blue Caledonian setting offers a multitude of habitats and ecosystems: islets, sandbanks, submerged reefs, mangroves... oases of marine life teeming with species and providing a fabulous pantry for the archipelago's inhabitants. With stunning aerial and underwater footage, the film portrays six "Lagoon Lovers": an adventurer in his lair in the north of the island, a biologist specializing in the coral reef, a medicine woman and activist for Melanesian culture, a kite-surfer from Nouméa, and a young nature ranger from Lifou, in the Loyalty Islands. All were captivated by the lagoon's stunning beauty. They all made it their daily life and their greatest reason for living.
