The Police – Full Show live, Hamburg l 1980 | Rockpalast

“Roxanne,” “Message In A Bottle,” “Every Breath You Take”… The Police wrote some of the biggest hits of the late ’70s and ’80s and still belong in every well-stocked record collection today. In 2025, The Police performed at the Markthalle in Hamburg, where Rockpalast recorded their concert, including their song “Message In A Bottle.” 💡 You can find the entire concert here:    • The Police – Full Show live, Hamburg l 198...   🎸 Our Rock & Alternative Playlist:    • 🎸 Rock & Alternative   London 1977, at the dawn of the New Wave era: Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner, a teacher and jazz bassist from northern England—better known as Sting—formed the band The Police with guitarist Andy Summers and drummer Stewart Copeland. The concept: catchy pop songs, played with two of the most important elements of the time: tempo and reggae. Add to that Sting’s very distinctive voice and his ability to compose catchy songs. Within a very short time, The Police built up a large fan base, and their debut album “Outlandos d’Amour” reached number six on the British album charts. From there, it was all about bigger, better, and further: albums two and three became global chart-toppers, and The Police’s hits spread around the world. What sets the British band apart is that their songs are both catchy and complex—music nerds can lose themselves in them just as much as fans of beautiful melodies. In the years that followed, The Police sold millions of albums and toured all over the world. But the three of them never really got along. By 1986, The Police had already broken up, and Sting launched his solo career, which remains successful to this day. In 2007–2008, there was a brief and successful reunion, including a world tour, after which Sting, Copeland, and Summers went their separate ways again. 📸 Thumbnail photos: WDR/Thomas von der Heiden #thepolice #rock #rockpalast ----- 🎬 More Rockpalast: ► Rockpalast in the ARD Media Library: https://www.ardmediathek.de/sendung/r... ► Rockpalast website and archive: https://www.wdr.de/tv/rockpalast/
