신비로운 전설 굴바위, 조망이 확 터지고 비가와야만 모습을 드러내는 숨겨진 명산

Gulbawi Rock, Oknyeobong Peak, and Seongye Falls, located within the Byeonsan Peninsula National Park (Naebyeonsan) in Buan-gun, Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province, are hidden gems of Byeonsan that preserve stunning natural scenery as well as deep historical and religious stories. Rather than popular hiking trails, they are beloved as remote hiking courses where one can feel the deep touch of Naebyeonsan. 1. Byeonsan Gulbawi Rock (Hoam, Dojeokgul) This is a massive natural cave and rock face located behind Daebulsa Temple in Udong-ri, Boan-myeon, Buan-gun. The interior is much more magnificent than it appears from the outside, giving it a peculiar atmosphere. Unique Topography and Scale: It is also called Hoam (Gourd Rock) because a gourd-shaped hole is carved into the massive, sheer rock face. The cave reaches a height of approximately 8 to 10 meters and a depth of about 30 meters; it is said that the spacious interior once allowed over 100 people to enter comfortably. - Mysterious Legend: There is a legend that if you put your ear to the floor inside the cave, you can hear the sound of flowing water and waves crashing in the distance. Additionally, there is an intriguing story passed down that in the past, when a fire was lit here, the smoke would pass through the underground of Byeonsan and escape to the northern seashore (Haechang). Historical and Religious Significance: It is known as one of the places where Maewoldang Kim Si-seup, one of the Six Loyal Subjects of the Joseon Dynasty, turned his back on the world and lived in seclusion. It is also considered a significant religious sanctuary in the history of the Jeungsan-lineage religion Daesun Jinrihoe (and its leader Jo Cheol-je), where doctrines were first preached to the believers. 2. Byeonsan Oknyeobong (Elevation approx. 432m) Nestled deep within the mountainous terrain of Naebyeonsan, this peak boasts a beautiful landscape that harmonizes with nearby peaks such as Yonggakbong and Deokseongbong. Although it is lower than Uisangbong (508m), the highest peak in Byeonsan Peninsula National Park, its rugged and deep terrain offers the thrill of a challenging hike. - Feng Shui Landscape: In Feng Shui, the harmony between the mountain range of Naebyeonsan, centered around Oknyeobong Peak, and the watercourse of Buan Lake (formerly Baekcheon) is referred to as the "Mountain Taiji and Water Taiji" formation. It is regarded as an auspicious site that serves as the origin of all things and a gathering place for energy. Paradise of Wildflowers: In the spring (February to March), rare spring wildflowers such as Pulsatilla koreana, Hepatica nobilis, and Adonis vernalis bloom in clusters around Oknyeobong Peak and the surrounding valleys (Waryongso, Hoeyanggol, etc.), attracting many photographers and hikers. 3. The "Lightning Waterfall" That Reveals Its Appearance Only After Rain Seongye Waterfall is the so-called "Lightning Waterfall" (or "Lightning Falls"), where water usually does not flow or falls very faintly on sunny days, but pours out a massive stream of water only immediately after it rains. - Topographical Principle: Above the waterfall's massive rock face lies a flat basin that served as the site of Seongyesa Temple, said to have been one of the four major temples of Byeonsan in the past. When it rains heavily, rainwater collects in this basin and then cascades down the sheer cliff all at once, forming the waterfall. Magnificent Scale: The waterfall reaches a height of approximately 60 meters. Visiting during the summer monsoon season or immediately after a heavy downpour reveals the awe-inspiring grandeur of the water plunging vertically down the massive rock face. The name "Seongye" (仙溪) was given because the surrounding scenery resembles a world fit for immortals. Seongye Waterfall is also known as "Seonggye Waterfall" due to an interesting legend associated with Taejo Yi Seong-gye, the founder of the Joseon Dynasty. According to the legend, Yi Seong-gye stayed here to practice martial arts and cultivate the Way before becoming king. ■ Hiking and Visiting Tips Generally, when exploring this section, the circular route starting and ending at [Daebulsa Temple ➔ Gulbawi Rock ➔ Yonggakbong Junction ➔ Oknyeobong Peak ➔ Seongye Falls] is used. #GulbawiRock #OknyeobongPeak #SeongyeFalls #HiddenMountain #Udongri #UsinVillage #DaebulsaTemple #Byeonsan #Buan
