Friendships are enjoyable sometimes and not so much at other times. Sometimes they are secure and other times they are insecure. We have seen in previous lessons that the prophets in the Old Testament were emissaries of God’s covenants with His people, and to understand this role of emissary, we need to understand that the prophets recognized that the relationship between Israel and God had its ups and downs. We have titled this lesson The Dynamics of the Covenants. In this lesson, we will look at three different topics. First, we will explore the ideals of the covenants. Second, we will examine the judgment of the covenants. How did the prophets minister on God’s behalf when people fell under divine judgment? And third, we will look at the blessings of the covenants. How did the prophets speak of the blessings God offered to his people? Understanding these dynamics of covenant life will help us understand Old Testament prophecy and how it applies to the church and the world today.
