WWII plan to convert B-26 Marauder bombers into a fighter for escorting B-17s & B-24s over Europe
In summer of 1943 heavy bomber attrition was high due to German Bomber interceptor engagements. In order to mitigate these losses General Giles proposed a study to arm-up The B-26 Marauder medium bomber and convert it into a bomber escort. The proposal, rational for the concept, B-26 modifications, tactics and armament upgrades will be discussed by review of the period archive documentation.
