This 58 mins radio documentary is named Emmet Dalton – Irish Patriot, Army General And Film Pioneer It investigates the remarkable life of Emmet Dalton, a Dublin man who was involved in many of the key-events in the birth of our modern Irish state, including: as an Irish Freedom fighter during the Irish War Of Independence; as an Irish Army General (1922-23) who helped win the most critical battle in the Irish Civil War (the battle for Munster); as the friend of Michael Collins who was with him in his last dying minutes in Bealnablath in August 1922. In addition, as a “man of innovation” who helped pioneer the Irish Film industry in the 1950s, by founding Ardmore Film studios, thus helping to boost the Irish economy and create jobs. This documentary covers all these facets of Dalton’s remarkable life, in particular focusing on his ultimate service to his country, which was in early August 1922, when he achieved the successful amphibious landing of Free State forces into Cork. In that single act, he helped defeat the state’s enemies and save the infant Irish democracy, as well as help save many innocent civilian lives (since it avoided a long-drawn out bloody land campaign between opposing sides).
