"All The Things You Are" Intermediate Example Solo Etude: "The Dearest Things"

Hi, I'm Nathan Hassall - London based saxophone teacher. In this video I'm introducing my etude "The Dearest Things" taken from my eBook "Jazz Etudes for Saxophone, Vol. 1". It's an example solo based upon the chord changes to the classic jazz standard "All The Things Your Are" by Jerome Kern. If you are a sax player who knows your scales and chords, but when it comes to improvising you freeze or just don't know how to make your solos sound authentic, then this etude and the eBook it comes from what written with you especially in mind. This piece is heavily influence by the Bebop greats such as Charlie Parker, Sonny Stitt and Sonny Rollins, and so you want to aiming for a lightness or deftness of tone and feel when approaching this etude. The piece is full of language inspired by these greats and so great practise for you! The notes will be on the screen so you can get an idea of the piece, and you'll also see lots of occasions where I recommend the use of an alternate fingering, such a Fork F Sharp, Side Key C and the Eb palm key without the octave key for a very blend-able and stylistic middle D.
