Nintendo's Lost DS Prototype: Project IRIS
In 2002, Nintendo was in a bad situation. The Nintendo 64 was on its way out, the new GameCube was struggling to get off the ground and while the Game Boy Advance was doing fairly well, mobile technology was advancing quickly and a competitor could have jumped in and outdone it at any moment. Nintendo’s hardware development teams started work on a new console, codenamed Iris. This console would have kept the familiar layout and features of the GBA, but with improved hardware capable of playing advanced 3D games. But in early 2004, just as Nintendo started to send out iris development units to third party developers, something unexpected happened. Within weeks, this prototype console suddenly disappeared from Nintendo’s future plans, and was replaced with a new console codenamed Nitro, a new handheld with features like dual screens and a touchscreen display. The Nitro was released at the end of that same year as the Nintendo DS, while the Iris faded into obscurity, with only a few scattered rumours remaining of the console. This is the story of Project Iris, Nintendo’s single-screen DS prototype. 0:00 - Opening 1:16 - The Background 3:04 - irisSDK 3:59 - Iris Development Hardware 5:17 - ARIS 6:21 - Iris TEG Board 7:29 - What happened to the Iris? 9:47 - Closing 10:52 - Messages & Credits Subtitlers: English (Canada) - RedBees French - NexMaxu If you want to add subtitles, contact RedBees#3366 or Jerry#3651 on Discord - you may be able to get paid for adding subtitles in certain languages!
