I 3D Printed a CineBack for My Kinefinity MAVO MK2

After nearly 3 years of work and multiple prototypes, I’m finally sharing a finished version of this 3D-printed back module made for the Kinefinity MAVO mark2 lineup. Its goal is simple : rethink the overall camera body ergonomics. By shifting the center of gravity toward the rear, it makes the camera significantly more comfortable on the shoulder while improving overall balance and versatility across different shooting setups. ⸻ 🔧 If you want to support the project and find more details : • STL FILES → https://gabrielbaxas.etsy.com/fr/list... • 3D PRINTED MODULE → https://gabrielbaxas.etsy.com/fr/list... 📸 Instagram →   / gabrielbaxas   🌐 Website → https://gabrielbaxas.fr ⸻ ⚙️ What it improves • Rebalanced weight distribution for easier transitions between tripod, shoulder, and Steadicam setup • Make the camera heavy enough to smooth operating without in body stabilisation • Additional power outputs (USB-C, D-TAP, RS, LEMO-2) via Kondor Blue V-lock Plate • Protected SDI outputs to reduce stress on fragile BNC connectors ⸻ 💡 Why this project Modern hybrid cameras are incredibly capable, but their ergonomics and design are still largely based on photography camera. In real filming conditions, this often leads to uncomfortable setups, poor balance, and inefficient workflows. Today, image quality is no longer the main limitation, ergonomics is. A video camera is a tools manipulated with hands and body so it's essential for me that the tool adapt to the operator body, not the opposite. When the Kinefinity Mavo Mk2 was announced, I saw an affordable (Sub 5000$ body) camera that, with some work and improvements, could possibly match the lovely ergonomics of much higher end cinema camera like the Alexa or the Venice while still remaining a bit more compact and lighter. ⸻ 🎥 Inspiration This project is inspired by French engineer Jean-Pierre Beauviala and his “cat on the shoulder” ergonomic philosophy : a perfectly balanced camera that becomes a natural extension of the eye and the body. ⸻ Built around the Kinefinity Mavo S35 mark2, this module aims to bring high-end cinema ergonomics ( like the Arri Alexa or the Sony Venice) into a lighter, more compact, and affordable system—while remaining fully modular and removable depending on the shoot. ⸻ Let me know what you think !
