Ambientalistas protestan contra Topolobampo: ONU pide detener megaproyecto industrial

Environmental activists and communities in Sinaloa have intensified their opposition to the ammonia plant being built in Ohuira Bay, in Topolobampo. During an interview on Grupo Fórmula, content creator Carol Solís explained that the project, promoted by Gas y Petroquímica de Occidente (GPO), a subsidiary of the Proman group, faces concerns about its potential impact on protected ecosystems, marine species, and Indigenous communities in the region. The controversy gained momentum after experts and international organizations warned of environmental risks related to the plant's operation. Among the concerns raised are potential damage to mangroves, migratory birds, sea turtles, bottlenose dolphins, and the area's fishing industry. The consultation process with Indigenous communities during the project's authorization is also being questioned. As part of the mobilizations, environmentalists called for a peaceful protest in front of the German Embassy in Mexico City to demand international attention to the issue.
