Les Voyageurs - Film promoting Charles L. Sommers Canoe Base from 1969. Note, as practices change please only use this video for historic purposes and not to promote the program. Information about the movie our historical archives: LES VOYAGEURS An excellent new 25 minute movie of the Charles L. Sommers Wilderness Canoe Base trail program was produced by the Empire Photosound Inc. of Minneapolis. The cost was $25,000.00, the money was raised by Mr. John Budd, chairman of the Film Production Committee. The Canoe Base Staff assisted in the production of the movie by serving in many capacities . Portaging; paddling, background, and as members of the cast etc. Mr. John Nemanich of Long Prairie, Minnesota and his Explorer Post were selected as the lead members of the cast. Charles Garriott of Kansas City, Kansas was picked as the representative guide. Three Explorers from Minneapolis participated as members of the background cast. The filming was done during July at the Base and on the trail. The premier showing was held at the Great Northern-Northern Pacific Railroad theater on November 22, 1969. We have borrowed the $6200.00 needed to purchase 50 prints of the film. prints are available for purchase by the local councils at $125.00 each. are encouraging the Region Ten Councils to purchase their own film.
