Tech Talk - Hydrogen Refueling Stations - Measurement - Hydrogen Technology Explained - Hyfindr Wirl
Learn about the instrumentation, measurement technology and sensors used in a hydrogen refueling station. Watch the Hyfindr Tech Talk between Cristian Wirl of the company WIKA and Steven Oji of Hyfindr to deep-dive into the technology that make the hydrogen fuel cell technology work - engineering explained at its best. The hydrogen economy is growing globally and hydrogen refuelling stations are an important element to ensure a hydrogen mobility. Without a hydrogen refueling infrastructure vehicles powered by hydrogen, such as a hydrogen car, hydrogen bus or a hydrogen truck cannot refuel the hydrogen tank. Sensors, such as thermal sensors, pressure gauges or pressure transmitters are needed to build a safe and reliable hydrogen station. #hydrogen #fuelcell #engineers #engineering #technogy #tech #brennstoffzelle #deeptech #wasserstoff Jump right into the discussion topics: 0:00 Hyfindr Tech Talks 0:25 Welcome Christian Wirl 0:34 Measurement Tech Intro 1:35 P&ID of Hydrogen Refueling Station 2:56 Pressure Gauge with Swiss Movement 4:25 316L Steel - No Hydrogen Embrittlement 6:12 Electronic Pressure Measurement 8:43 Hydrogen Flow & Temperatur in the HRS 11:46 Thermal Temperature Sensor 14:23 How not to disturb the H2 flow 15:32 Mechanical valve - working principle 16:16 Instrumentation in HRS 16:50 Coned and Threaded Connections 17:45 Challenges & Quality Standard 18:40 Thank you, Christian! 19:04 Please subscribe & share Executive Summary of Tech Talk Script: In this video, Steven Oji (Hyfindr) and Christian Wirl (WIKA) discuss the engineering measurement technology used in hydrogen refueling stations. Christian has brought along several devices, including a gauge, electronic pressure sensor, a temperature sensor, and a valve, to demonstrate their use. These devices are often used in hydrogen refueling stations to measure pressure and temperatureof hydrogen gas. Christian explains the use of pressure indicators and transmitters at various stages of the hydrogen refueling process, such as at the inlet of a compressor or at storage tanks. He also discusses the design of manual valves. The gauge Christian has brought along contains Swiss Movement technology, which is used to transfer the movement of the burdon tube and measure pressure within the system. Christian further discusses the importance of temperature control in hydrogen refueling stations (HRS). He explains that hydrogen gas warms up when it expands. It is important to keep the temperature of the gas below 85 degrees when filling a vehicle with hydrogen. To do this, the gas is typically cooled to around -40 degrees before it is dispensed. Christian discusses the use of temperature sensors and transmitters in the hydrogen refueling process, which are used to measure the temperature of the gas and transmit this information to the control system. These sensors and transmitters must be explosion-proof and made of materials that can withstand high pressures, such as 316L Steel (1.4404).
